HSKoS EP 12 - Instagram shot

Even more heartbreak! Min Suk gets tragic news that affects his life in a big way, while Soo Young decides that moving to a new house will give her a fresh start. Jin Woo keeps pulling Soo Young into his life, with help from Yoo Ah, who continues the uncomfortable tension with her sister. It’s a happy ending this time around, though, so the fun and crazy King Of High High School should be returning to us very soon.
Honestly, I’m getting a sick of this unending rivalry between Min Suk and Jin Woo. I wish we could all get along like we used to in middle school. I wish I could bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone would eat and be happy.
So we left off with the beginnings of another fight between Min Suk and Jin Woo as they continue to fight over Soo Young. Before it can get physical, Soo Young separates them and then hurries away. Jin Woo reminds Min Suk that he gave him a warning that he’d be doing what he felt like in regards to Soo Young. Best part though: Jin Woo gets in his car and beeps at Min Suk, who has to get out of the way so fast that he steps in a puddle, which results in him swearing up a storm. I love it when they go on a swearing spree, it’s so hilarious, especially since other kdramas never do it.
HSKoS EP 12 - Watermelon
Jin Woo goes back to see his mom at the hospital and makes a call to his father, informing him of what happened and giving him the room number should he want to visit. Soo Young is kicked out by her mother, who assumes she’s been fired, and returns to Seoul. There she runs into Grandpa again, and walks him home, only to find out that he’s Min Suk’s grandpa. Gramps insists Soo Young come in for some watermelon. Min Suk tells Soo Young how Grandpa would always talk about the “pretty unni.”
Min Suk prods her about Jin Woo, but she rightly tells him off since he has no right to be jealous anymore. Even so, Min Suk persuades her to return to work and not quit just because of him. He uses her motto, “You’re a modern woman who can draw a line between public and private matters.” Soo Young returns home to an unsure Yoo Ah, who immediately calls Jin Woo to keep him up to date on Soo Young’s whereabouts.
HSKoS EP 12 - Hospital bean
Min Suk arrives at work and is happy to see Soo Young already there. When they step into his office, she reads him the schedule for the day and demands that when it’s just the two of them that he calls her noona. Flabbergasted, Min Suk shakes his head and seeks out another person whenever Soo Young tries again to make him say it. “I’d rather die than call her noona,” he says. When she threatens to quit again, he very unwillingly addresses her as noona. He bites back right away for her patronizing, though, asking if he’s too young to know love.
Desperate to get away from Min Suk, Soo Young jumps into Jin Woo’s car when he drives up. When Jin Woo correctly assumes that Soo Young used him to escape, he asks her for a favor in return: to make his mother some red bean porridge and come with him to visit her. His mother laughs at how cute Soo Young is and marvels at Jin Woo being in a one-sided love. As they’re leaving, Soo Young see the President enter the hospital, but doesn’t mention it to Jin Woo. The President is about to enter when he sees the mother and loses his nerve at the last second, backing away.
HSKoS EP 12 - Hospital heartbreak
During a hockey game, Min Suk gets hit badly and has to have surgery on his shoulder. Though it’s nothing serious, his family, friends, and Yoo Ah all worry. Team Leader makes up the excuse that he has the flu, and Soo Young starts worrying, too. She’s also decided to move into a new house. When she stops to get some groceries, her feet wander as she’s preoccupied with her thoughts, and she ends up in front of Min Suk’s house. She overhears Dad and Grandpa talking as they leave to visit Min Suk.
At the hospital, Min Suk looks through the cute pictures he and Soo Young took on their date to the island. His Dad and Coach go to talk to the Doctor, and it turns out that though the surgery went well, Min Suk can’t play sports anymore if he doesn’t want to lose the ability to use his arm. His Dad is completely heartbroken. It’s stunned silence when the Coach reluctantly passes the information on to Min Suk.
HSKoS EP 12 - Bad dream
Soo Young gives her notice to Team Leader, assuring him that’s she’ll work for the rest of the week, but to find someone to take her place. Team Leader freaks out when Min Suk says he can’t come into work again.
Min Suk clears out his locker and gives each of his friends some of his hockey gear. Along with Yoo Ah, his friends try to cheer him up and invite him out for food. Though he smiles and puts on a brave face, Min Suk is still devastated and goes home to rest instead.
The President has a dream of Min Suk’s Dad confronting him, angrily asking how he could do something like that to someone and then live comfortably. The President desperately replies that he didn’t mean to, but Min Suk’s Dad keeps calling him a bastard and eventually tries to strangle him. The President shakes himself to wake up. How mysterious. He then receives a call from his lackey, who has found out that Min Suk’s Dad owns a laundromat and adopted Lee Jung Soo’s two sons.
HSKoS EP 12 - CRY
Duk Hwan and Tae Suk don’t want Min Suk to be alone so they buy some food and go to his house. Team Leader is already there and he finds out that Min Suk can’t play hockey anymore. Min Suk himself isn’t there though, he’s gone missing. Outside, Duk Hwan and Tae Suk let Team Leader know that they’re in on the secret. They both laugh at Team Leader for looking older than his age and Team Leader angrily points at Duk Hwan, accusing him of looking thirty-two. Oh my god, that’s hilarious, the actor is actually thirty-two in real life. They go on to make fun of the way he talks, and he yells at them in return for their free use of the company card. Eventually, he walks away, mumbling, “I hate high schoolers.”
Duk Hwan, Tae Suk, and Yoo Ah all go out in search of Min Suk. They find him running laps at the school, but realize that he needs his time alone. To compliment the moody atmosphere, it starts raining and Min Suk sits there, letting himself cry. I forget about the hockey aspect of Min Suk’s life a lot, since they don’t put as much emphasis on it. His reaction shows how important it really was to him, though, and it’s heartbreaking. Duk Hwan and Tae Suk start crying with him, and damn it, so do I.
HSKoS EP 12 - Karaoke
Min Suk later meets his Dad for some late night dinner. He has a cheery attitude and his Dad suggests that, since he has a good voice, he should become a singer or idol. After that they do karaoke, where Min Suk shows of said skills and agrees that he should be a singer.
Soo Young is beginning the packing and looks excited about moving. Yoo Ah, on the other hand, continues to be uncomfortable around her sister. As she’s leaving for school, though, she breaks down and demands that Soo Young go see Min Suk. Yoo Ah believes that Soo Young is the only one who will be able to comfort Min Suk. Wow, I’m impressed, that’s not an easy thing to say.
I’m really going to cry now. Min Suk leaves school the next day to find Soo Young waiting with her arms wide open. He walks over slowly and when he doesn’t move forward, she does, and hugs him. Soo Young admits to herself and Min Suk that it doesn’t matter what age he is: “I like you so much. I feel like dying if I don’t see you.”
HSKoS EP 12 - Best hug
After Thoughts
Yay! Min Suk and Soo Young made up and came to terms with their feelings for each other despite the age difference. Now please tell there will be more funny shenanigans from now on and less angst. I don’t think I could take much more heartbreak. It’s like it was one after another, with the reveal of his identity and to top it off, finding out that he can no longer play hockey. It hurt too much.
There were some comedic bits, though. I loved all the meta in this episode, with Duk Hwan’s age and Dad suggesting Min Suk become a singer. It’s hilarious when they throw in those little winks and nudges. It was really nice to see some family bonding time between Min Suk, Dad, and Grandpa. That scene of encouragement from Min Suk’s dad was sweet and heartwarming. It’s even better as the Jung sisters are still super uncomfortable around each other.
I’m glad that Jin Woo is changing his act and showing real compassion for others. Though it’s obviously a bit too late. It surprised me that they stopped Min Suk from being able to play hockey, I wasn’t expecting that at all. But if it had to be done, better now so we can get all of the angst over with at once. I don’t think Min Suk and Soo Young can go back to being that same happy, cute-sy couple they were before, especially with Yoo Ah there, but we’ll see. Can’t wait for more King Of High High School fun!
HSKoS EP 12 - Come to me

King of High School Episode 11 - Let the Emotional Feathers Fly

Min Seok (in his school uniform) and Soo Young stare at each other in shock as Yoo Ah comes up and hugs Min Seok's arm.  Neither acknowledge the poor stalker but eventually Soo Young runs off with Min Seok in pursuit.  He tries to explain the situation but it does not go over well.  It goes over even worse when he meets up with her later that night again trying to assure her of his love.  But when she rebuffs him he left devastated (no one can do devastated as well as Seo In Guk).
Poor Min Seok, once Soo Young finds out his real age it is hard to see past that number.  I can understand where she is coming from.  It is hard enough to be in a large age gap relationship when you actually know about it.  To find out that you were a cougar this whole time unknowingly is kind of life altering.  That combined with the whole "my whole life is a lie" aspect of her boyfriend is enough to make anyone run away.  And let's not forget the stalker girl sitting in the wings yelling at her sister every time she gets a chance.
Soo Young is understandably upset that her sister is only thinking of Min Seok and her own issues instead of how devastating it was to find out that your beloved boyfriend is really ten years younger then expected.  In true selfish teenage fashion Yoo Ah is unable to see beyond her own feelings and yells at her sister for thinking that she could have Min Seok, calling her grandma and pretty much just saying anything hateful that might hurt her Soo Young.  The tension is broken (at least for us viewers) when the two girls end up having a pillow fight before Yoo Ah storms off.  I thought it was interesting how we saw the remnants of the fight stay on the floor (the feathers from the pillow) through the whole episode.  Just another reminder that everything has fallen apart for our heroine.
Yoo Ah decides to deal with the situation by ignoring reality.  She does her usual stalker activities of giving Min Seok snacks (my heart broke seeing him so dead inside during this scene) and decides to be proactive by trying to hook her Unni up with Jin Woo.  Yoo Ah calls Jin Woo to meet her for dinner and discuss the "situation" resulting in her offer to help him with his wooing.  I still think that Jin Woo is all wrong for Soo Young, but now I have a new ship to sail from this drama.  Stalker and White Ricecake Ahjussi (aka Jin Woo) are adorable together!  I want Yoo Ah to graduate from high school and marry him asap so she can scream and take down his father a peg or two.  I never even thought of them as a possible couple until this scene.  See!  There is actually a way for me to not hate Jin Woo.  And there is even time for him to get that much needed therapy in before she is legal to marry.
Soo Young runs away to her rural home where she roams the town and pines for Min Seok.  It doesn't actually say she is pining, but I will assume she is since who would not be missing that awesome bundle of yumminess?  Yoo Ah gives White Ricecake (that nickname is awesome) the heads up on Soo Young's location and he runs off to attempt to woo her back.  All I can say is way to little to late.  You had your chance and you were a total jerk.  But at least his change of heart has allowed me to accept him as a possibility for Yoo Ah.
Soo Young politely declines Jin Woo's interest but he pulls her into a hug, again trying to change her mind.  This of course is the exact moment when Min Seok walks into the picture and his look of utmost despair just ripped out my heart.  He slowly walks away, only to burst in on the couple a few moments later dragging Soo Young off to talk. Episode 11 end with nothing resolved and the two men facing off yet again.

The heartbreak and feels that this episode evoked in me.  On one hand I knew that this was where we were heading plot wise, but knowing and feeling are two different things.  I appreciated how the writers kept the sweet feel of the drama steady by using side characters to keep the humor intact.  Grandpa shadow boxing Min Seok was so adorable and helped ease the pain of that scene and also Min Seok's handler trying to cheer him up with porn just cracked me up.  The show was able to be sad without sinking into a deep melo pit in which it can't come out. Now I just have to patiently wait for subs so I can watch Seo In Guk call Soo Young Noona.  Silly how small things like that can thrill me.

HSKoS EP 4 - tense
Four episodes into Savvy and the characters are just as fun, wacky, and heartwarming. Min Suk’s friends find out about his double identity and he bribes them with some company credit card shopping time. Jin Woo gets treated harshly by his father and the tension between him and Min Suk rises. The company freaks out when one of their projects is leaked, leading them to begin an investigation on their own employees. Lastly, Min Suk proves he is loyal to his team and will stand up for what he believes in.
HSKoS EP 4 - Moreelevatorawkward
With his friends in front of him and Director Yoo behind him, Min Suk quickly makes up a story that these high school students are cutting school and trying to sell something to him. He shoos them out the door while Jin Woo look on curiously. Outside, Min Suk tries to explain briefly but then tells them to wait. He’ll meet them when he’s off work, he has a managing meeting to go to. Ha. Weirdly, his friends don’t seem all that surprised or concerned. If I found out one of my friends was doing that I would be in shock.
Upstairs, Soo Young gets chastised for coming in late to work. Min Suk arrives and the employees are excited to see their Director who succeeded with the presentation. Min Suk tries to confront Soo Young about the bite mark she gave him when she was drunk, but she runs away. Having another one of her inner monologues, she talks about a song that she feels connected to and it starts playing in the background. Nice touch. Lamenting her life, she later steps into the elevator with Jin Woo. Only when she realizes its him she spits out the food she had in her mouth, which was some kind of powder. I laughed so hard. Jin Woo sighs in frustration as Soo Young tries to wipe him off. This girl just can’t win.
HSKoS EP 4 - Shopping
During the next meeting, Jin Woo proposes another project. Min Suk’s phone goes off, and while he’s replying he makes another comment and ends up having to give his two cents on Jin Woo’s presentation. Poor Jin Woo was just about to have succeeded with the President’s approval before Min Suk spoke against it.
Soo Young communicates with Min Suk using cute little post-it notes, as she’s still too embarrassed to face him. He’s amused, and goes along with it.
After work, he explains to his friends that he’s been acting as his brother. They yell at him, saying he probably never would have told them if they didn’t find out themselves. Traitor, they say, until Min Suk brings out the company credit card. Now that is realistic. They go out on a shopping spree, while his friends ask if there are any pretty woman at his work.
HSKoS EP 4 - Hostess
Min Suk gets a call from someone who’s looking to scout him, from a company called Sewha. They meet for dinner, along with Min Suk’s friends, and end up going to a hostess bar. Uh oh, someone notices Min Suk drinking with the Sewha man, that doesn’t bode well. Everyone gets drunk and nice Dad feeds them hangover soup while scolding them the next morning. The cool friends help Min Suk skip school, but only after Yoo Ah finally leaves them (having extracted the promise of a date from Min Suk).
At work, grumpy worker gets more of a backstory. He’s got a daughter that he’s been trying to get close to, and has to take blood pressure medication. He also covers for Soo Young when she’s late. Jin Woo’s presentation from earlier gets leaked to the press but under Sewha’s name. They start an investigation under the suspicion that it was someone from inside the company that leaked the information. One worker mentions to the President about seeing Min Suk drinking with the man from Sewha. Not good.
HSKoS EP 4 - Angryjinwoo
Min Suk’s name gets forgotten quickly, though, once they find evidence of grumpy worker downloading a confidential file after staying late at work. Jin Woo goes a little psycho and harshly interrogates him. Grumpy worker maintains his innocence, since it’s obviously not him. It’s even more unfortunate since he was supposed to say goodbye to his daughter at the airport after work and give her a necklace he’d bought as a present. He tries to leave but is stopped by Jin Woo.
Min Suk stands up to Jin Woo on his behalf. “If you’re investigating, are you allowed to speak rudely to your elder?” he asks angrily. Grumpy worker tells them to stop, he’ll go back. Really, Jin Woo, you’re crossing a line here. Min Suk stubbornly stays with grumpy worker, saying Jin Woo has no respect for people and might just beat them up. Besides, he was a strong suspect at one time so they should question him too.
HSKoS EP 4 - beer
After a while, a news report comes out that a group of hackers has been arrested. The police call to inform them that their company was one of the ones that was hacked. Min Suk and Jin Woo get in a shouting match or two before the President shows up just in time to hear the news about the hackers. He harshly scolds Jin Woo for questioning an innocent man. Jin Woo takes it for a while before speaking up. “Are you that unsatisfied with me?” he asks. The President replies, “I’m unsatisfied with your very existence.” Wow, that is cruel. No wonder Jin Woo is messed up.
Grumpy worker leaves dejectedly with Min Suk trailing behind. No worries, though, good-hearted Soo Young went to meet the daughter and gave her the gift. They decide to go out for beer together. Min Suk belatedly remembers his date with Yoo Ah and rushes off. It’s been a long time, but she’s still there waiting for him. However, what she thought was constipation turns out to be appendicitis and Min Suk has to rush her to the hospital. He calls her sister (not knowing it’s Soo Young) to tell her what happened. I was so excited that Soo Young would find out about his double identity already. But no, drama can’t have that. Min Suk leaves a note for the sister and they never cross paths. Damn.
At work, Min Suk tries to apologize to Jin Woo, who acts as if everything’s fine. Their interactions are almost as awkward as those between Jin Woo and Soo Young. Team Leader tells Soo Young that her contract won’t be renewed. Gee, I wonder if Min Suk will hire her as a secretary, what with the subtle reference to the position earlier in the episode. The preview for next week is showing more fights between Min Suk and Jin Woo which should be interesting, and the possibility that it was Jin Woo who got Soo Young fired.

HSKoS EP 3 -Tired
Min Suk takes on the responsibilities of an ace hockey player and a company Director. He scores goals and dominates presentations. Jin Woo gets his project stolen from him and is showing second-lead style hate towards Min Suk. Meanwhile, the school friends start getting even more suspicious and Soo Young continues to deal with her Jin Woo-induced depression. A solid, funny episode that gives us lots of awkwardness, comedy, and heart.
HSKoS EP 3 - hockey
Min Suk manages to avoid discovery by Yoo Ah for a little bit longer after she gets carried away by security. Hilariously, when Min Suk is desperately holding both the door and Soo Young, Jin Woo glances over curiously and then just continues walking. Like holding your colleague’s mouth and a rattling door are normal occurrences at the office.
Unfortunately, Min Suk misses another hockey game, they end up losing, and the whole team gets punished by the coach. Min Suk’s sunbae is not pleased and punches him right in the face, which gives him a pretty ugly bruise on his lip. I suspect angry sunbae will become an even bigger problem in the future.
Dad informs Min Suk that his hyung has paid for his school fees like normal. Min Suk is surprised and concludes that his hyung must be alive. No, really? He vents his frustration to a picture of the two of them and angrily puts it face down. A second later, though, he stands it back up. Awww, even if he might seem angry at his hyung sometimes it seems like he really loves him.
HSKoS EP 3 - Manhockey
I like the nightmare scene, in which he starts by playing hockey and scores a goal. He begins making his classic victory pose but the row of adult spectators only boos him. He’s confused and then looks down and instead of his hockey uniform he’s dressed in a suit. He wakes up when the audience throws something at him.
The next day he arrives at school only to say his name for role call and then jump out the window to go to work. His friends are very suspicious of what he’s been doing all the time. The scenes when he goes in the elevator dressed in his school uniform and comes out in a suit are great; they make for cool and fast shots. A sequence of scenes of Min Suk going in and out of work and school is shown. He looks like he’s more familiar with switching between the two but it’s seriously wearing him out.
HSKoS EP 3 - Elevatorofawkward
Soo Young continues to be adorably awkward. Things between her and the Director are still uncomfortable. She tries to psych herself up and stop acting so afraid. I love that she imagines herself doing it first, all confident and assured, and then when she actually goes over to the Director, she’s completely embarrassing.
Jin Woo coldly replies to her and Min Suck joins the two of them on the elevator. Min Suk keeps needling poor Soo Young about her crush and Jin Woo continues to inexplicably compliment Min Suk on his handsomeness. Not sure why that’s a thing.
HSKoS EP 3 - Pout
Back at the Retail team office, Team Leader intervenes whenever Min Suk is told about work and handles it himself. Min Suk sulks adorably when Team Leader tells him not to think or do anything, but just sit in his chair. Of course he doesn’t listen, and accidentally comments out loud during a meeting. The President hears him and Min Suk stutters his explanation about why he likes Director Yoo’s idea. But he’s then asked to give the presentation about the project, much to the frustration of the Team Leader and Managing Director.
Soo Young is asked to help finish the presentation and the other female co-workers are disappointed that they didn’t get that alone time with the new Director. They practice late into the night and Min Suk keeps making Soo Young follow his every whim since she’s his subordinate. It’s too cute how he basically pokes her and pulls her pigtails. I could not stop laughing when he maneuvered her and Jin Woo into the same car and then pretended to have forgotten a meeting, meanwhile giving Soo Young a thumbs up. He is one subtle matchmaker.
HSKoS EP 3 - moviesooHSKoS EP 3 -moviejinwoo
Soo Young’s serendipity backstory was incredibly sweet. Her love for Jin Woo was born from destiny and romantic movie expectations. Now it’s as if she’s learning that love is nothing like the films we watch, and destiny is nothing more than wishful thinking. I really want Jin Woo to show a little more compassion and understanding towards her situation.
Poor Soo Young’s day has just been terrible. Managing Director had her carry a heavy package all the way upstairs and then back down. She knocked over and stepped in dirty water. Min Suk continued to play jokes on her and put her in another uncomfortable situation with Jin Woo, who basically rejects her again. But instead of being docile and passively accepting all of Min Suk’s teasing and jokes, she sets the record straight with him. He finally realizes that Soo Young had been rejected and he’s been unknowingly humiliating her. Min Suk is suitably ashamed of what he’s done.
HSKoS EP 3 - Presentation
Wednesday is both hockey game and presentation day for Min Suk. In the morning, he plays the first game in the competition, but can’t catch a break with time. The referee gets injured, his opponents keep knocking him down, and the game goes into overtime. He ends up having to leave early to go to the presentation, but not before tying the game. Arriving just in time, and rolling into the room on a cart, he gives a successful and memorable presentation by being energetic and fun.
The success is celebrated and he apologizes to Soo Young. However, she’s stubborn and he ends up insisting she punch him and get over it. Bad idea, Min Suk, she actually does punch him, and pretty hard too. They spend the night drinking and talking, agreeing to become friends. Soo Young’s ugly drunk habits make a reappearance. She starts crying loudly and wailing about Jin Woo; Min Suk tries to help get her up but she bites his hand in response. Nice one, Soo Young.
Yoo Ah the stalker gets Min Suk’s friends to find out what he’s been up to lately. The episode ends with the two of them in the lobby of Comfo, seeing everything.

HSKoS EP 1 - Title Cast
High School King of Savvy, which shall hereafter be simply referred to as Savvy, finally aired its first two episodes, and it met all of my expectations and then some. The main character Lee Min Suk is a high school student who has to pretend to be his brother, the head of a major company, because of some mysterious circumstances. The premise is a little ridiculous, but it’s easy to ignore that and instead focus on all the hilarious shenanigans that ensue.
HSKoS EP1 - GroupBizHSKoS EP1 - HighShot
The first episode starts off with some cool shots from above Seoul, while a helicopter lands below. Our main man steps out and is enthusiastically greeted by his colleagues, who congratulate him on taking care of a difficult contract. This is Seo In Guk as he’s pretending to be his hyung, Chief Director Lee Hyung Suk. He steps into a limo to go get praised by the President of the company before his assistant, Jung Soo Young (Lee Ha Na), reminds him he has an exam at school. He rushes out, tugging at his clothes, to go take his test as high school student Lee Min Suk.
After that it cuts to a hockey game Min Suk is competing in, and I spent the next ten minutes or so really confused. There’s absolutely no indication of it, but they’ve jumped back in time to show how this all began. Really, just a single line at the bottom, maybe saying “Two Months Earlier,” would have been nice.
HSKoS EP1 - Hockey
The episode does do a good job of laying down the foundation for the drama and introducing the main characters. During the hockey game at the beginning, Lee Min Suk demonstrates how much of a hot-headed teenager he is when he starts attacking the other team after they trip him. Eventually, he calms down after being punished by the coach. He’s got a couple of main friends at school, who are already adding good bits of comedy.
At home, he looks relaxed with his Dad and Grandpa. They wait for his hyung, who’s supposed to be returning home after spending years abroad, but he never shows up. I’m not sure when, or if, they’re going to have the brother appear, but right now I’m not very concerned. Min Suk obviously loves his Dad, even if he’s not his birth father. Though, I do wish that the main character in a drama could have a normal family life, just once. Poor Min Suk’s got two dead parents and an absent brother.
HSKoS EP1 - StalkerHSKoS EP1 - Stalker Mad
Jung Yoo Ah (Lee Yeol Eum) makes her first appearance at the hockey game as Min Suk’s super fan and stalker. Apparently she cut class to go see her “hubby” play, and her sister Soo Young has to come get her. Soo Young talks with the teacher on the phone and tells him that Yoo Ah has always been dense. She once got bit by a dog and then proceeded to retaliate by biting the dog back. Ah, she’s so great. Usually I don’t like any character who’s overly clingy, but Yoo Ah is more cute than annoying so far.
Soo Young goes to work as part of the Retail team at Comfo (no idea why they decided to name it that). She makes sure her co-workers re-use and throw away their cups, and stays longer to finish her work. Her attitude at work is quiet and professional, though that whole plant watering thing seems a little weird. Soo Young’s real, awkward self gets revealed when she sees Director Yoo Jin Woo (Lee Soo Hyuk). She’s the only one left at the office when he calls to request a contract. It’s cute how she freaks out, and pretty realistic of someone who has a major crush. She borrows lipstick to put on, but then regrets it and tries wiping it off. Noooo, second hand embarrassment already; she walks in with the lipstick smudged on her face.
HSKoS EP1 - Lipstick
Director Yoo is on the phone and Soo Young proves she’s quick on her feet by helping him out. Yoo Jin Woo is impressed and makes sure to remember her name and remind her to come to the company diner. She gets terribly flustered when he mentions the lipstick, asking if she had just been kissing someone at work. Denying it vehemently, she replies that she hasn’t dated anyone for a few years and Jin Woo pretty much says “TMI.” But Soo Young is still infatuated, so she starts styling her hair (unsuccessfully) and reading books on pheromones. As she reads, there’s a little animation of butterfly’s using pheromones, which is cute but seems a little out of place when there’s no other animation in the episode.
At the company diner, Soo Young can’t help but organize the shoes as she comes in. Director Yoo arrives soon after and sits across from her, offering to pour her drink. Meanwhile, Soo Young mind’s going into overdrive and she starts thinking everything that he does is a “signal” that he likes her. Don’t listen to the stupid pheromones argument Soo Young! Too late, when Yoo Jin Woo gets up, Soo Young follows him into the men's room. Apparently she has decided that it is the best place for her to confess her feelings. The amount of awkward is almost painful. He lets her down politely.
HSKoS EP 1 - BathroomHSKoS EP 1 - Jin Woo No
I’m not really a fan of the common drunk calling trope, but it does get Min Suk to notice her on the bus. I like that the scene allowed us to see the start of Min Suk’s interest in Soo Young and Jin Woo’s good side when he goes to pick her up. Yoo Jin Woo as a character is surprisingly interesting and three-dimensional. The “rival” in dramas doesn’t always get a realistic personality. Jin Woo is good at his job and is a genuinely nice person, if a little too blunt sometimes.
His relationship with his father, the President of Comfo, is full of tension and I can’t wait to see their history together. Jin Woo has brought his mother back and says no one will find out if she’s in a rehabilitation center. Find out what, and why is she in rehab? President d-bag is not impressed, saying that just because she’s not famous anymore doesn’t mean people won’t recognize her. Now I’m really curious. But Soo Young heard their conversation so now her and Jin Woo are connected whether they like it or not.
HSKoS EP 1 - DBag
Min Suk gets a call from a blocked number and it turns out to be his hyung. He asks Min Suk to go to his workplace and pretend to be him for just a few months. “You’re the only blood relative I have who looks like me,” Hyung Suk begs. Min Suk is about to leave the next day but remembers his brother’s heart-felt words and the mention of blood ties and he decides to do it.
I’m really loving the ending song for Savvy. It’s a nice, mellow rock song and fits so well with the tone of the show. It would be great if they only included songs like this one for the soundtrack, and avoided the dramatic ballads.

Everything is in motion now and it’s even more fun to watch.
King Of High School Episode 6HSKoS EP 6 - Sneaky Jin WooIn the meeting, Min Suk has hastily introduced Soo Young as his new secretary. Embarrassed and confused, she excuses herself and Min Suk runs after her. Soo Young calls him out for not asking her and for expecting her to do whatever he says. She also says she appreciates his help but she has to accept what’s happened and deal with it herself.
Sighing, he goes back inside only to pulled into the bathroom by Team Leader. He reiterates the “you’re not supposed to talk or think” mantra and Min Suk says fine, he quits. Team Leader does some weird groping and just as Jin Woo walks up to the bathroom he hears Min Suk say he can have the secretary without getting busted. Color Jin Woo intrigued.
In a very drama-like set of circumstances, Jin Woo happens to know someone who’s brother is a private investigator. He finds out that Hyung Suk was spotted at a symposium a few weeks previously. Jin Woo asks for more investigation on Hyung Suk. A minute later he gets a call from the rehab who say his mom is getting bad. He promises to drop by soon.HSKoS EP 6 - Mommy lunchBack at the convenience store, Soo Young gets fired because of Min Suk pulling her away earlier. Then she gets a call from her mother who’s waiting outside the company. She takes her mother in and runs into Min Suk in the lobby. After introducing her mom, Min Suk catches on. They get some coffee and sit down together. Her mom is nothing like Soo Young; she takes selfies and talks about how she never expected Soo Young to succeed.
Eventually they send the mother on her way. Soo Young and Min Suk apologize and forgive, and are generally very open with each other. So nice to see in a drama. While they’re talking, the two friends creep up from behind and listen. Min Suk goes off with them when he sees.HSKoS EP 6 - Soda timeAt the Jung house, Soo Young finds out that Yoo Ah knew she’d been fired and that’s why she’d been doing so many nice things. Sisterly bond is the best. The next morning, Soo Young gives Min Suk a morning call to get ready for work and then starts enthusiastically preparing herself for being the Director’s new secretary. She puts on some makeup and takes off her glasses, but I wouldn’t really call it a makeover. At work, she’s reintroduced to the Retail team as the secretary and it’s very awkward.
Soo Young starts following Min Suk around, informing him of his schedule. He calls her out on her nervousness and tells her to wear her glasses if she can’t see. Jin Woo sees their interaction and looks like he’s plotting something. He follows her and offers to buy her a soda from the vending machine. She hesitates, but agrees. “Do you feel uncomfortable talking with me?” he asks. Really, Jin Woo, really? He says he felt bad when she was fired and thought he was too sensitive before; he asks if she wants to get dinner as a token of his apology. Soo Young tries to refuse, but he basically says the place and time and then leaves before she can object. Jin Woo, you’re acting like a real a hole right now. She gets all flustered and excited.HSKoS EP 6 - WeridOne of the female employees takes a message for Soo Young about a change in the Director’s schedule, but doesn’t bother to make sure the note is actually on her desk. She gets yelled at for it later though. However, Min Suk had already left and they have to call him back. Soo Young was about to text Jin Woo and tell him she’d take a rain check on the dinner but she gets caught up in the panic to get Min Suk back for the meeting. She rushes downstairs but Min Suk is just getting into a taxi. Grabbing a scooter, she speeds off after him. Catching up, Soo Young demands he get on and he confusingly obliges. They make it just in time to meet the President.
Exhausted, Soo Young returns to her desk only to realize she never sent the text to Jin Woo telling him she wouldn’t come to dinner. She rushes off and meets him as he’s coming out of the restaurant. He knew if she didn’t call something must have happened. Soo Young offers to buy him dinner to make up for it. Since it would be awkward to go back to the same restaurant he was just in, there is another place he has in mind.HSKoS EP 6 - DinnerThat place turns out to be his apartment and some takeaway. Uh oh, Jin Woo what are you up to. All nervous, Soo Young goes to the bathroom and hurriedly tries to fix herself up. They begin making dinner while Jin Woo tries to subtly ask questions about Min Suk and her relationship with him. He even helps her measure the amount of spaghetti to use with her fingers. I’m really hating him now. He’s obviously only doing this to get Min Suk’s secret and some leverage over him, while poor Soo Young looks likes she’s falling in love all over again. I’m gonna be real pissed if he breaks her heart a second time.
Jin Woo shows her his love of classical music, which so fits his personality. Finally, we get some more of his backstory. He tells her he was lonely as a child. His seldom saw his father, who was frightening at best. His mom loved classical music and so he came to like it. When he feels down he likes to listen to it and cheer up.HSKoS EP 6 - InconceivableHe gives her a ride home and a present for getting her new job. He also meets Yoo Ah briefly. Min Suk has some cute family bonding time during breakfast the next morning. Though his Dad is starting to seriously worry about Hyung Suk.
Min Suk has the funniest expression when he comes to work and listens in as Soo Young and Jin Woo talk and reference the night before. He confronts Jin Woo, who admits he was curious why Min Suk cared so much about Soo Young and he found her charming…as a woman (*ahem*). He also mentions that Min Suk is overreacting if she’s just his secretary.
The Retail team all congratulate Soo Young on a job well done after getting Min Suk back in time for the meeting. He tries to tell Soo Young about Jin Woo getting her fired but he changes his mind at the last second; he doesn’t want her to get hurt again. He agonizes over the decision still.HSKoS EP 6 - MeanieJin Woo sends her the classical song they were listening to after dinner. It hurts to see her this happy knowing it will eventually come crashing down. She types up a message of thanks but accidentally sends it to Min Suk instead of Jin Woo. This sets him off and he reveals everything, but Soo Young blindly defends Jin Woo. After Soo Young leaves Min Suk’s office upset, the office gossips start to suspect a relationship. Grumpy worker shuts them up quickly. Soo Young is super confused by Min Suk’s changing moods and they both leave work in a sour mood.
Min Suk goes to hockey practice, where he gets in another fight. His friends try to cheer him up. Yoo Ah comes and insists on buying him some meat but he lashes out at her. Aww, I feel so bad for her now. On the way home, Min Suk spots Jin Woo dropping off Soo Young again after dinner. Min Suk walks up behind her and asks her to answer an important question. Just for ten seconds he says. Then….he hugs her.HSKoS EP 6 - the hug
